Full disclosure. I have never owned a windows/DOS/Linux what-have-you PC. The computers I was raised on were always Macs; even my elementary and middle school computer labs were full of Macs. (I attended school with Wozniacs kids for crying out loud!) I have ridden the Apple wave through numerous ups and downs; we owned Apple Classics, iMacs, PowerPC’s, iBooks, Newtons… even an Apple Cube! And let me tell you, I’ve taken my fair share of abuse.
“PC’s are better! You can’t play any good games on a Mac!”
(In the past, very true)
“Macs can only do simple stuff and are geared toward novices”
(Bull. I edited gorgeous digital video with my Mac and won best picture in my film class. I created my company’s web site on a Mac, never a hitch. Every Adobe product you can imagine works. My photos and music are perfectly organized, compressed, and compatible across all platforms. I can tinker with networks, firewalls, and internal components.)
“Macs are overpriced, and are elitist hunks of junk… people only buy them because they look cool and they think they’re better than everyone else.”
(I am so sick of that one. Yes, they are expensive. I buy one every 5 years. Thats it. Yes the marketing is a bit snooty, but does marketing take away from your iPods glory? Your iPhone’s? No. It most certainly doesn’t take away from the AWESOME SAUCE that is my new Macbook Pro! AND YES! IT DOES MAKE ME FEEL BETTER! Better prepared, assured, and confident to take on any problem that the digital world throws at me!)
PLEASE TELL ME, PC FANS… WHAT CAN’T YOU DO ON A MAC? Be specific. No WISHY WASHY answers.
I’ve yet to receive any satisfactory answers.
OH and BTW. This 15inch Macbook pro oozes sexy, can do major heavy lifting, makes my life better everyday, and is better than your PC. deal with it.

Mac book pro
Read first before buying.
Pros:
Trackpad upgrade.
Positioning of keypad towards the upper portion of laptop, allowing room to rest entire palm and wrist on a flat surface. This is a feature not found on 14″ or 15″ generic PC laptops, including HP’s entire line. Mac designers really thought through on this one. On the HP line, I couldn’t place my entire hand on the laptop, and noticed that undo pressure was put on tendons and I hand to balance my wrist in mid-air, causing strain. (The hp line places a speaker strip at the upper portion of the laptop, which is why it gives less room to rest your palm on the laptop)
Flatter laptop, allows better angling and positioning of hands as level as possible to elbow joints that rest on the table.
Battery life. I can’t believe the typical non-mac notebooks are still at 2.5 hrs.
Cons:
Sharp edge: metallic allumium sharp edge. NO rounding of edges. It causes impressions on your wrists quite easily and the longer you type, the redder it gets. You’d think they could at least curve it a bit.
NO blue ray support. I think apple underestimate the need of people to have something tangible in their hands, some physical possession. People like me want bluray or wish for it, since it represents the lastest in HD imaging. Technology wars are won through having the most advanced lastest hardware and software (support). Not having bluray will cause loss of business: more so as the future approaches.
The laptop speakers are of poor quality. What apple needs to do is partner up with a specialized speaker maker, like Altec Lansing, Creative, or Bose or someone who can incorporate better sounding speakers.
I don’t like the way the keys are spaced out by metallic strips. The keys are spaced out from one another, and you have to reach more with your fingers to press on the Y button for instance. The result is awkward feel and slower typing times.
There is also another limitation for pc users who want to use win7 or windows (by partitioning harddrive space) on the mac laptop, and that is, not all the software for pc will recognize mac hardware, the airport for instance. So there are compatibility issues since microsoft won’t recognize or support mac/apple. Additionally, peripherals, like your favorite 5 button pc mouse doesn’t fully work on the mac operating software. Why? Mac may recognize the driver for the mouse, and you’ll be able to move the mouse around and use 3 of the buttons, but you can’t program and use the other 2 buttons on the mouse because the software disk that programs the other 2 buttons are made to run in windows. So if you don’t like the feel of that magic-mouse, which has a claw grip and no palm grip, your pc mouse won’t fully work on the osx.
The mac optical drive doesn’t accept micro cds (you know the cds/dvds smaller in dimension). If you try to insert it, you might just get it stuck inside. So there are going to be some media content you can’t view. This is really bad if you have one of those dvd-cam-recorders that record on mini-dvds.
Suggested Improvements:
Fix the cons listed above plus +
Softer clicking on mousepad
Less pressure to press the keys. Move keys closer and manufacture the keys themselves a tad bigger. No gaps or metallic strips between keys, please.
Less pressure to press on keys. HP/toshiba laptop keyboards now have the best low pressure keyboards that are great for health and hands. I noticed mac laptop keypads require more pressure to press the keys, which I don’t like. Maybe apple can just import the latest line of HP laptop keyboards and place them in the current location (most upper portion).
Apples needs to introduce a non-widescreen line of mac-pros for people who use their laptops primarily as a workstation, not as a movie-player. A document friendly screen, like that found on the size and shape of the iBookG4 would be good. I was turned downed by the 17″. It just seemed like an elongated mess. I am not wanting to buy a stick.
The next line I want to see support for USB 3.0 and a 3rd usb port on the 15 inch model.
Unibody body of mac is aluminum, but the top screen portion is not. The top half is plastic and painted to look like aluminum. So it is going to get scratched up quick. So apple needs to make that exterior aluminum too for enhanced durability. Apple needs to make a Uniframe, not just a unibody.
Integrate iPhone 4 features into the next line of Mac Pro, such as retina display, the improved glass, noise cancellation, better isight camera with more mega pixels, voicecommands, and improved support for skype and talking through the computer.
I want a 14 to ~15 inch model that is not a movie-friendly widescreen, but document-friendly screen. I am talking about a rectangular screen closer to a square’s dimensions stretched slightly longer. Does no manufacturer nowadays sense a demand for screens like the size and shape of the iBook G4 line?
It behooves my intelligence that apple caters to a largely affluent (or people that like to spend) class of buyers and academics, yet does not provide a document friendly screen, which is what this group of buyer needs to read documents, contracts, and write essays. Apple makes wide-screen laptops (especially elongated 17″ screens) best for viewing movies yet does not support hot, in-demand, and futuristic media like bluRay disc.
The current line of Mac Pros cost a lot but lack the perfection I expect. Once they give the features I want, I’ll buy a Mac Pro. I’m giving 2 stars not because the product is bad itself overall, but for the price you pay, it does not live up to expectations.

Unbelivable that macs do not support AVCHD or bluray nativelly .Anyone who has bought an HD camcorder in the last 3 years will be frustrated trying to use a mac to edit there videos. APPLE’s solution is either to use there own codec which either creates very poor qualty videos almost like standard definition or creating huge files 5 times the size of your original. How ironic gorgeous 1080p display but you cannot watch a bluray disk instead you must buy your high definition movies from the apple store or spend hundreds more on software and drives what a shame. Even worst is that they deliberately cripple there dvd drives using some feature called Riplock that slows the dvd drive to a crawl if you wish to backup your dvd collection. I gues it’s back to windows untill Apple solves these problems

Well im off to college this year, so i was looking around to find a desktop replacement laptop. I had a gateway with a Phenom and 4gb ram, and a sweet graphics card loaded with windows 7. I was looking at a Toshiba Satelitte to replace it, but i went to the store to chck it out and was turnd off by all the plastic and hwo easy it was to bend the screen. Then i walked over to the MacBooks. I knew i needed a pro. I am a photographer and a power user. The aluminium unibody is a huge plus, along with software and hardware being designed for each other as well. This Machine is Amazing. It keeps up very well with my previous gateway which i sold now. The only problem i can see is that the screen is very glossy, but it has only been hard to use outdoors, indoors it is fine. Although i paid 700$ more for this than the toshiba, i feel it was very much worth it.
